Replacement Guideline for replacing
SARACOM whistle with Kockum Sonics Tyfon®

1       Introduction

        As you know or may not know Korean Whistle manufacturer SARACOM
        has gone bankrupt. This is a guideline in order to replace SARACOM
        whistles with Kockum Sonics TYFON.

        In many cases the existing control unit and push buttons, morse keys
        and manoeuvring lamps etc can be kept.

        Normally a ship is equipped with two horns one air driven horn and one
        electrical. This guideline has been written in order to assist when a
        replacement of SARACOM unit is considered. Depending on what type
        of horn that needs replacement certain data has to be known for us in
        order for us to produce the unit as fast as possible.

1.1      AIR HORN Replacement guide

        If replacing an air horn we need to know the following in order to replace
       the air horn:

       Air supply pressure:
   
    (Service air system 6-9 bar or starting air system 16-30 bar)

       Voltage for solenoid valve to operate horn:
   
    Normally 230VAC (50 or 60Hz) or 115 (50 or 60Hz) or 24VDC

       Voltage for heating element:
   
    Normally 230VAC (50 or 60Hz) or 115 (50 or 60Hz) or 24VDC

       Voltage for emergency solenoid if connected:
   
    (Normally not connected)

       LOA (length overall) of ship:
   
    Just to double check that the correct type of horns is picked.

1.2      ELCTRICAL HORN replacement guideline

       If replacing an electrical horn we need to know the following in order to
       replace the air horn.

       Supply voltage for ships with LOA from 75m and upwards
   
    660-690VAC 3phase (50 or 60HZ) or
   
    440VAC 3phase (50 or 60HZ) or
   
    360VAC 3phase (50 or 60HZ)

       Supply voltage for ships with LOA <75m: 
   
    24VDC

       Control voltage for big whistle:       
   
    230VAC or 115VAC 1 phase( 50 or 60Hz)           

       LOA (length overall) of ship: Just to double check that the correct type of
       horns is picked.
